Preseason
-
Blessed are you, Lord God, Creator of body and mind and heart; you have sent the Spirit of wisdom and knowledge to guide your people in all their ways. At the beginning of this new year for school and sports, we implore your mercy: bless the athletes, parents, teachers, coaches and leaders of our community, that together we may grow in faith, hope and love as we learn from you and each other how to follow your Son Jesus. Expand the horizons of our minds, that we may grow in wisdom, understanding, and knowledge; deepen our commitment to seek the truth of your ways; help us to grow physically as we use the gifts and talents you have given us; and enliven our faith to reach out to those in need. Finally, keep us safe from illness and injury as we navigate the seasons ahead. Glory and praise to you, Lord God, forever and ever. In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.
-
Father, this season is Yours before it’s mine. There will be hard practices, long days, and moments that test what I’m made of — and I welcome every one. Use them to make me stronger in body, sharper in mind, and deeper in faith by the end of this than I am right now. Whatever You’re trying to build in me — I’m in. Amen.
-
God, before the first whistle, I give You this season. Not just the highlights — all of it. The grind, the wins, the losses, the locker room. Guard my heart from making this about me. Let it be said when it’s over that I played for an audience of One. Amen.

Pre-Practice
-
Heavenly Father, through St. Paul you encourage us to “run so as to win” in our athletic pursuits, while keeping our eyes on the eternal glory of heaven. May we always take the lessons we learn in sports and use them to help us grow in faith, hope and love. Help us to follow the example of your saints, who showed great courage and proclaimed your glory no matter the cost. We lift our prayers to you and ask that you bless our teammates and coaches during this practice and in the week to come. Help us to strive to use our talents to the best of our abilities and to glorify you in doing so. We ask all these things through Christ, our Lord, Amen.
-
Lord, you have called us all to be saints. May our actions here on earth be worthy of this title so that we may one day spend eternity with you in heaven. May we work hard at this practice to use the gifts you have given us and may we always treat each other with love, knowing that each of us is called to be a saint. Bless our parents, teachers and coaches who help us along the way and grant us a fun and safe practice today. Amen.
-
God, thank you for the many gifts that you have given us and all our friends on this team and in school. Thank you for our parents, teachers and coaches who help us to use our talents and gifts. Help us to constantly give thanks to You for all the blessings we have each day and help us to show this thanks by giving back to other people who are in need. Help us to find ways to help those in need in our schools, our families and our community. We ask that you bless us during practice this week. Amen.
-
Lord, practice is where it’s built. Sharpen me today. Don’t let me coast, don’t let me cheat the rep, don’t let me settle for good enough. You gave me this body and this opportunity — the least I can do is bring everything I’ve got. Make me coachable, humble, and hungry. Amen.
-
Father, You said whoever is faithful in little is faithful in much. So make me faithful here — when no one’s watching and nothing is on the line. Give me the discipline to go hard when it’s easy to coast and to finish strong when the body burns and the clock winds down. Build me one rep at a time. Amen.

Pre-Game
-
Lord Jesus, thank You for blessing me with the ability to play today. You’re my Savior and I strive to be a humble servant as I follow you and your teachings. As I prepare for competition, help me remember that this game is temporary and that my soul, and the souls of my opponents, are eternal. Bless my competition and lead them to You. Please now I ask, with the abilities You’ve blessed me with and the coaching I’ve received, help me play to my fullest potential, earn a fair victory, and glorify You and Your Kingdom. Amen.
-
God, I offer myself to you — to build with me and to do with me as you desire. Relieve me of the bondage of self, that I may better do your will. Take away my difficulties, that victory over them may bear witness to your grace. My creator, I am now willing that you should have all of me, good and bad. I pray that you now remove from me every single defect of character which stands in the way of my usefulness to my team. Grant me strength, as I go out to do your bidding. Amen.
-
God, this game is a gift. The body You gave me, the years of training, the chance to step on this field — all from Your hand. I play for Your name, not mine. Give me courage when I’m tempted to play scared, clarity when the moment gets loud, and strength in the final stretch. Whatever the scoreboard says, let my effort glorify You. Amen.
-
Father, my heart is racing and my mind is running a hundred directions. Calm me down. Focus my eyes. Steady my breath. You are not nervous about this game, so I don’t have to be either. I’ll handle the effort. I trust You with the outcome. Amen.
-
Lord, You did not give me a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind. So I won’t shrink today. I won’t play tight. The God who raised Christ from the dead lives in me — with You I can run through a wall. I play bold. I play free. I play for You. Amen.

During Competition
-
God, bring me back. Refocus me. I play for You.
-
Father, You’re with me right here, right now. Strength. Clarity. Next play.
-
Lord, keep my heart right. Don’t let bad calls or trash talk pull me out of who You called me to be. Compete hard. Honor You. Next play.
-
Father, this is the moment Your strength is made perfect. Pour into me. The body feels the weight of the game — and Your power moves through me when I lean fully on You. One more rep. One more play. Amen.
-
-
Post-Game (Win)
-
Father, thank You. Thank You for the health to play, the team that fought with me, and the result. But this win isn’t mine to keep — it’s Yours. Keep me humble in the celebration. Keep me hungry for the next chance to honor You. The trophies of this world rust. What I do for You lasts forever. Amen.
-
God, You gave me a platform, even a small one. Someone saw how I played. Someone saw how I treated my opponent after the buzzer. Don’t let me waste a single inch of it on building my own name. Use this moment for Yours. Amen.
-
-
Post-Game (Loss)
-
Father, the scoreboard didn’t go our way. I gave it everything for my team, for my coaches, for the people who showed up for us — and the outcome is in Your hands. My identity isn’t in the scoreboard. You loved me before this game, You love me right now, and You’ll love me tomorrow. Show me what this game has to teach me, then give me the heart to get back to work. Amen.
-
God, I left it out there today, and the result is Yours. You are still good and Your plan isn’t shaken by a final score. Don’t let me waste this game feeling sorry for myself — build something in me through it. I’m still Yours. Amen.
-
-
Strength & Courage
-
Father, Your Word says You gave me a spirit of power, love, and a sound mind — not a spirit of fear. So when fear shows up before a big moment, I’ll remind it whose I am. I belong to the God who conquered the grave. I walk into this moment in that truth. Amen.
-
Lord, You told Joshua to be strong and courageous because You were with him wherever he went. That promise didn’t expire. You’re with me on this field too. So I won’t be terrified or discouraged. I’ll move forward. Amen.

Identity in Christ
-
Loving Father, I invite you into my life today and make myself available to you. Help me to become the-best-version-of-myself by seeking your will and becoming a living example of your love in the world. Open my heart to the areas of my life that need to change in order for me to carry out the mission and experience the joy you have imagined for my life. Inspire me to live my faith in ways that are dynamic and engaging. Show me how to best get involved in the life of my parish. Make our community hungry for best practices and continuous learning. Give me courage when I am afraid, hope when I am discouraged, and clarity in times of decision. Teach me to enjoy uncertainty and lead your Church to become all you imagined it would be for the people of our times. Amen.
-
God, thank you for this amazing day. Thank you for the gift of life. Thank you for the opportunity to live, love, grow, give, and serve our gifts for the greater good of this world. Please help us become all we were created to be. Help us be holy. Help us be saints! Amen.
-
God, you so loved the world that you sent your Son to take on flesh and become human. That as one of us He would die for our sins and rise from the dead so that we might have life eternal. We pray especially today in thanksgiving for the gift of life. We pray in thanksgiving for our own lives, for those of our teammates and coaches, and for all those who uphold the dignity of life each day in our world. In word and action, may we always treat our teammates, friends, coaches, opponents and officials with dignity and respect. We ask this through Christ, our Lord. Amen.
-
Father, before I’m an athlete, I’m Yours. My stats don’t define me. My playing time doesn’t define me. The depth chart doesn’t define me. You do. When I start drifting from that truth, pull me back. Anchor me there. Amen.
-
God, the game will end one day. The cheers stop. The jersey comes off. My identity in You doesn’t go anywhere. Keep that order straight in my heart now, so I’m not lost when the sport is over. Amen.

Discipline & Work Ethic
-
Today is the beginning of a new day. God has given you this day to do with what you will. You can waste it or use it for good. Tomorrow will come and this day will be gone forever, leaving in its place something you have traded. Make sure it’s success not failure, gain not loss, good not evil.
-
Father, give me the discipline to do the unseen work — the extra reps, the film, the recovery, the right food, the right sleep. I want to honor You with how I prepare, not just how I perform. The athlete You’re building is built in those quiet hours. Make me faithful there. Amen.
-
God, You said whoever is faithful in little is faithful in much. Make me faithful in the small things today — the stretch I want to skip, the rep I want to shortcut, the attitude I want to slip into. Build me there. Amen.
-
-
Injury & Recovery
-
Father, this chapter looks different than I planned, and I trust You with it. You’re still in control, even on the sidelines. Heal my body in Your timing. Strengthen my mind in the meantime. Please don’t let me waste this season feeling sorry for myself — grow me here. What I learn on the bench might be more important than anything I’d have learned on the field. Amen.
-
God, recovery moves on Your timeline, not mine, and I trust it. You’re working even when I can’t see progress. Keep me from comparing my timeline to anyone else’s. You see me, You’re with me, and the comeback is already in motion. Amen.
-
-
Adversity & Setbacks
-
Father, this is part of the journey, and I trust it. I’ve put in the work and I’m ready when my number is called. You see every rep and every quiet hour, and Your timing is perfect. Keep my attitude right. Keep me cheering for my teammates. Keep me ready, because my moment is coming. Amen.
-
God, the door I expected didn’t open — and I trust Your plan is bigger. You see me. Your plan for my life isn’t shaken by someone else’s decision. Show me the next step. I’m listening. Amen.
-
-
Teammates & Team
-
Loving God, the followers of Jesus were filled with zeal to lead others to Christ. Help us to grow in faith and love, so that we as teammates zealously proclaim the Gospel through our joy in play. Inspire our words and our actions so that others may see our love for you and long to know you. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
-
Father, bless every athlete in that locker room. Protect their bodies. Strengthen their minds. Draw the ones who don’t know You closer to You. Use me — in how I play, how I speak, how I lose, how I win — to point them toward Christ. Amen.
-
Lord, make us one. Strip out the ego, the comparison, the jealousy. Build a team that fights for each other, not against each other. We’re stronger together than any of us are alone. Amen.
-
-
Coaches & Authority
-
Father, bless my coach. Give them wisdom, patience, and clarity. The job is heavier than any of us know. Help me to honor their leadership — even when I disagree, even when it’s hard. Make me the kind of player they can count on. Amen.
-
Lord, You put authority in my life for a reason. Help me to receive coaching with a humble heart, not a defensive one. Correction isn’t an attack — it’s a gift. Help me see it that way. Amen.
-
-
Humility in Success
-
Heavenly Father, we ask that you help our team to grow in the virtue of humility. Help each of us individually, as coaches and players, to glorify God for our talents and gifts while working hard to realize those God-given talents to the best of our ability. Help us always to seek God’s will in how we use our talents and gifts for the good of others and help us to submit to the authority of our coaches, parents, and others who truly want us to realize these gifts. Grant that we may become more humble through our practice and games this week. We ask this through Christ our Lord, Amen.
-
Father, the moment I start thinking I did this on my own is the moment I’ve lost the plot. Every gift, every win, every opportunity — it’s Yours. Keep me low. Keep me grateful. Keep me dependent on You. Amen.
-
God, if You give me a platform, give me the character to carry it. Don’t let success be the thing that finally pulls me away from You. The bigger the stage, the more clearly I want Your name on it — not mine. Amen.
-
-
End of Season
-
Heavenly Father, the season is finished — every drill, every game, every quiet moment in the locker room before the lights went up. Thank You for the gift of competition, for teammates who pushed me, coaches who taught me, and parents who carried what they couldn’t see. Thank You for the wins that humbled me and the losses that grew me. Whatever I learned this season — about the game, about the people around me, about myself — make it count for Your kingdom. Help me carry forward what’s worth keeping and lay down what isn’t. As I step into the off-season, keep my body, keep my mind, and keep my heart fixed on You. We ask this through Christ our Lord, Amen.
-
God, the season’s over. The wins, the losses, the stuff no one else saw — You saw all of it. Thank You for the privilege of competing for You. Help me rest well, recover honestly, and use this off-season to become someone You can use more next year. Whatever next looks like, I’m Yours. Amen.
-
Father, I’m releasing this season to You — every play I wish I had back, every moment I wish had lasted longer, every dream that came true and every one that didn’t. None of it defines me. You do. Thank You for being faithful in every quarter. I trust You with what comes next. Amen.
-
-
End of Career
-
Heavenly Father, today the uniform comes off for the last time. Thank You for the gift of this sport — the years, the teammates, the lessons no classroom could ever teach, the body You gave me to use for Your glory. I’m grateful for every coach who shaped me, every opponent who tested me, every moment of grace that carried me through the toughest stretches. As this chapter closes, help me carry forward what mattered: the discipline, the bond with teammates, the dependence on You. The score sheet ends here. The race You set before me does not. Lead me into what’s next with the same trust I tried to play with. We ask this through Christ our Lord, Amen.
-
God, I never deserved any of this. The strength, the opportunities, the people I got to call teammates — every bit of it was a gift. Thank You for letting me play. Thank You for using sport to teach me about You. Whatever You give me next won’t look like this, and that’s okay. I hand it back to You with open hands. Amen.
-
Father, take the name off the back of my jersey, and I’m still Yours. The world told me I was an athlete; You told me I was Yours. Help me walk into this next chapter holding tightly to who You say I am and loosely to what I used to do. The platform is changing. The mission isn’t. Use me. Amen.
